The Tay Estuary Gallery

Backlit Elm Flowers

At Kingoodie near Dundee, on the banks of the River Tay, a few paths wind through a small area of 'waste' ground where trees and shrubs grow wild. In this case, the low sun of a Scottish spring highlights the elm tree's simple flowers, giving the picture an almost 'Japanese' feel.

For another example of the backlighting effect, see the cholla cacti in the Arizona Gallery.
